Housing stock
The District has a large low-rise residential base: single-family units are about 30% of housing units but are contained in roughly 80% of residential buildings, and in 32 of its 57 tax-assessment neighborhoods the typical home is a detached, semi-detached, or row house. Capitol Hill and Petworth are therefore useful local examples of established residential areas where replacement work commonly involves individual, older low-rise homes rather than only large apartment buildings.
